Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 12.08.1998 and numbered 98/11614, in accordance with the additional article 30 of the law numbered 2809 dated 28 March 1983. The founding dean of the Faculty of Communication, which started education with the Department of Public Relations and Promotion in the 2000-2001 academic year, is Prof. Dr. Hikmet. Later, he served as dean, respectively, with Prof. Dr. Ümit Atabek, Prof. Dr. Hürriyet Konyar, Prof. Dr. Bilal Arık, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ayhan, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şeker and Prof. Dr. Figen EBREN made it. The Dean of the Faculty is carried out under the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gülbin ARICI. As of 2022, there are 12 professors, 13 associate professors, 4 doctoral faculty members, 9 lecturers, 7 research assistants and 21 administrative staff working at Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication.
After the Department of Public Relations and Publicity, the departments of Radio, Television and Cinema (2007), Journalism (2008) and Advertising (2019) started education, respectively. A total of 1903 students are currently receiving undergraduate education in these departments. At the Faculty of Communication, postgraduate education in the field of Public Relations and Publicity was started in 2000 within the Institute of Social Sciences, and the doctoral program in the field of Communication was opened in 2009, also within the Institute. The faculty currently offers four master's and four doctoral programs.
Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication has aimed to maintain a balanced theoretical and practical education since its establishment. University FM radio and İletişim Newspaper started broadcasting in 2000 as the first application units. Later, AKİL News Agency, AKÜN TV, Atölye Public Relations and AİFA Film Workshop application units were put into service respectively. Students carry out their application projects in these application units operating within the Akdeniz University Communication Research and Application Center (AKIAUM), which was established in 2005. Our students, who received their first award in the Aydın Doğan Foundation Young Communicators competition in 2008, continue to receive awards for their work in prestigious national and international competitions.
Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication has been contributing to the production and dissemination of theoretical knowledge in the field of communication and media since its establishment. The 37th issue of Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication Journal, which is a peer-reviewed academic journal that started to be published in 2003 and scanned in ULAKBİM, has been published. After the first international scientific event titled "Issues in Mass Communication A Non-Western Perspective" organized in 2008, the Faculty has hosted many scientific events. In this context, the fourth International Media Studies Symposium (IMS), which is regularly held by the Faculty, was held in 2022.
In addition to qualified education programs for our students, our faculty aims to strengthen sector and university relations with public interest and social responsibility awareness. In line with this goal, we produce various projects by developing multifaceted collaborations with all stakeholders and transform these projects into social benefit. We constantly update our education programs with the support of our Advisory Boards that contribute to faculty education processes. Our faculty has become one of the most preferred communication faculties in our country with our qualified education programs we have developed, our expert teaching staff and our technical infrastructure in line with the requirements of the age.

Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication embraces the general belief that creativity and human communication are inseparable parts of the intellectual process. It has undertaken to take education, research, science and creative activities to the highest level in order to serve both the sector and the society in every field of communication by taking advantage of innovative teaching methods and techniques as well as developing technological tools.
At the center of our faculty's basic educational mission is to present the theoretical and applied knowledge that our students will need to achieve success in the communication programs they choose, by integrating different disciplines with the communication discipline, taking into account the interdisciplinary nature of communication sciences. In addition, we aim to support our students in becoming a valuable part of the global society, while making significant contributions to social progress, cultural development and the welfare of our local people, with the cooperation of our academic staff who are experts in their fields and our stakeholders who are experts in their fields at local and national levels. Within the framework of all these objectives, the most basic principle is to train communication professionals and academicians who have social sensitivity, respect differences and humanity, have acquired sufficient intellectual knowledge, never compromise on ethical principles, can think critically, can apply innovation to all areas of life, and have expertise and technical knowledge in their field. be our priority
