Department History:
Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 12.08.1998 and numbered 98/11614, in accordance with the additional article 30 of the law numbered 2809 dated 28 March 1983. Initially, it was envisaged to establish the Public Relations and Publicity department within the Faculty of Communication, and this department started education by admitting its first students in the 2000-2001 academic year. Students will be admitted to the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, which was established in 2007, as of the 2007-2008 academic year.
has been started. Students will not be admitted to the Evening Education Program, which was opened in the 2011-2012 academic year, as of the 2019-2020 academic year. The Department of Radio, Television and Cinema had its first graduates in the 2010-2011 academic year.
As of 2022, there are 15 faculty members in the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, including 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 lecturer doctor, 3 lecturers and 3 research assistants.
Today, Akdeniz University Radio, Television and Cinema Department has become one of the departments that accept students with the highest scores in Turkey. The total number of formal education students of the department in the 2021-2022 academic year is 381.

The Department, which has attracted attention with its curriculum and academic identity since its establishment, aims to be a reference institution in the production of audiovisual content. In this context, the goal of the department training program is; It has been determined as providing students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to collect, interpret, process, transform and distribute information into content, and to manage communication processes at all these stages. In order to achieve this aim and target, students in the department are first taught the basic concepts and methods of social and human sciences, and then the techniques of producing radio, television and cinema content in traditional and digital media. In this context, students of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema are provided with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to work in different sectors, including traditional media such as printing and publishing, as well as digital media. Another of the main goals of the department is to train graduates who consider social, scientific and ethical values and have a critical attitude in the collection, interpretation and application of data related to their field of study.

The department adopts an education-training approach focused on content production. Accordingly, the framework of the application part of the program consists of Workshops and their affiliated studios. Students of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema have the opportunity to turn the theoretical knowledge they have learned in classes into practice by taking part in AKÜN TV, UNI FM and AİFA applied training workshops. Students graduating from the department mainly specialize in media production and management. To date, the department has produced a total of 494 graduates working in the media and cinema sectors in Turkey and abroad. Students of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema have achieved many awards and success in major competitions such as Young Communicators, TRT Communicators of the Future and RATEM with the projects they developed.

The department also has master's and doctoral programs under the umbrella of Akdeniz University Social Sciences Institute, Radio, Television and Cinema Department. Faculty members of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema have developed national scientific research projects with public institutions and organizations and participated in various international scientific projects within the scope of Erasmus and Erasmus+. Since its establishment, the Radio, Television and Cinema Department has maintained its corporate cooperation with the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.

The teaching objectives of the program are:
Has the knowledge and skills required by national and international reputable institutions in the fields of radio, television and cinema;
Aware of the social, cultural, technological, economic and political dimensions of the communication and media field;
Aware of individual and social responsibilities and professional ethical rules;
To train graduates who are competent in radio, television and cinema content design, production and management.
